I Guess That’s What Happens When You’re Young

Once I fell in love,

and I haven’t come back.

I guess that’s what happens

when you’re young.

I lied to everyone

except for him,

and I died on that hill.

Stumbling upon

an old time capsule,

I sob for the friends

I once loved.

They’re buried too,

under betrayal

and blocked phone numbers.

Before the heavy pain,

we once kissed in cars

and played on beaches,

and those are things

that are hard to remember

when I fight so much

to forget them.

I guess that’s what happens

when you’re young.

You fall in love

with boyfriends

and best friends,

and you fuck it all up so bad

that you hope

you never love anyone

like you loved them

ever again.
