Texas

Everything’s bigger,

and I’m walking down the street

wondering who can see me.

My feet ache,

maybe they’ll fall off,

but I dance anyway.

Years have gone by.

I’m not the same.

We don’t talk anymore,

and I like it that way.

I’m proud of myself.

You can’t say the same.

This state,

this state of mind,

is everything I’ve ever wanted.

This place is where I choose to stay.

The last time I was in this city

I knew nothing.

I knew everything.

I never knew what was coming.

Thank you for your service,

but I think we should part ways.

Years have gone by.

I’m not the same.

We don’t talk anymore,

and I love it that way.

I’m a bigger person.

You can’t say the same.

This is everything I’ve ever wanted.

This place is where I choose to stay.

I’m glad to be back on a random occasion.

I’m only here a few nights,

but it’s validation that I can return,

and that I don’t need you.
